Charles II plea roll image, 1673

This colourful picture of Charles appears on a parchment roll that describes a case in his law court. The picture shows the king wearing his crown and holding the sceptre, a rod that shows royal power and the orb, a golden sphere decorated with jewels and a cross on top. The orb refers to the king’s role as protector of the church.
