Image bank: St. Paul's on fire painting

Painting of the Great Fire, 1666 (57.54)

This shows what the fire looked like from Tower Wharf. Crowds of people can be seen, crammed onto the quayside, trying to save their belongings from the fire and loading them onto boats. The painting shows the fire on Tuesday night. St Paul's Cathedral can be seen blazing on the horizon. Buildings to the left of the Tower are in ruins, having burnt for two days already.
